This series contains copies of the 1880 Decennial Indian Census and the yearly Indian Census. Not all tribes under the Puyallup Indian Agency or the Cushman Indian School are represented in this series. The early Federal Census includes Indian and English names, if known; family relationship, degree of Indian blood, age, occupation, health, education, personal and real property. The Indian Census contains Indian and English names, if known; whether male or female, family relationship and age.

The Cushman Indian School was a boardings school located in Tacoma, Washington and served the Native American population from about 1910-1920. It drew from over 350 studnents from the Northwest and Alaska. Cushman was an industrial school and was equipped for industrial training and included a machine shop....
